Indian Weight Loss Diet – What Is It?

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

When I first came across this term, I thought “that’s interesting –  an Indian weight loss diet must mean a diet on which one can eat Indian food”.  Well, it’s true to say that it’s perfectly possible to cook healthy Indian food as this article Indian Food as Part of a Weight Loss Regime will tell you, but I thought that this must be a specific diet, perhaps one with meal plans and tips for replacing high fat, high cholesterol ingredients, such as ghee, with lower cholesterol ones such as olive oil.

How naive I was; I checked out loads of websites, many of which turned out to be written in Hindi but they were all blogs or travelogues, not diet plans at all.  Apparently the “Indian weight loss diet” refers to the fact that you lose weight if you pick up a stomach bug when travelling in India, along the lines of Montezuma’s revenge!  I don’t think I need to go into too much detail here but suffice to say that when you suffer from sickness and diarrhoea, especially for a prolonged period of time, you are bound to lose weight.  Thus was the myth of the Indian weight loss diet exploded for me – what a pity, I was quite excited about the prospect of indulging my love of Indian food while being “on a diet”.

The Best Diet Plan for Weight Loss

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

There are plenty of arguments as to what is the best diet plan for weight loss.  Some people advocate reducing calories and others reducing carbohydrates.  Still others recommend a diet of boiled eggs and apples or grapefruit before each meal or cabbage soup.  Now, however, it seems that apple cider vinegar is the best diet plan for weight loss.

How does this work? you may ask.  Allegedly it works for the following reasons:

  • Drinking apple cider vinegar (diluted) increases metabolism
  • It burns calories
  • Drinking diluted apple cider vinegar before a meal makes you feel full
  • It is rich in vitamins and minerals and therefore good for you

I’ve never tried this diet, but it sounds terrible; after all who wants to drink vinegar of any kind?  My answer to these claims would be this:

  • Eating a moderate amount of complex carbohydrate and taking regular exercise increases metabolism.
  • Taking exercise burns calories.
  • Drinking a glass of fizzy water before a meal makes you feel full
  • All sorts of protein and vegetables are rich in vitamins and minerals and are good for you.

Wouldn’t you rather eat a normal, moderate diet with some mild exercise for a healthy lifestyle, rather than drinking vinegar, which is quite likely to leave you with an ulcer, a hiatus hernia or at least acid reflux?  For more information on healthy eating and diet, visit Best Diet Books.

Best Diet Program – Which One?

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

There are so many diet programs out there but which is the best diet program?  All the diet programs claim to be the best, don’t they?

There are the ones where you eat nothing but grapefruit or cabbage soup.  There are others where you count calories or carbohydrates or points and you need a calculator beside you every minute of the day.

There are still other diet programs which involve such complicated exercises that you need a physics degree to understand them.  You know the sort do so many of this exercise then rest for x minutes and increase by 5 times daily, so that you end up not knowing where you are at all.

I think that the best diet program is the sort which recognises that we’re all human and will, occasionally, eat something that is bad for us and, oh no – fattening!  What most of us need of a diet program is one which teaches us what foods will stop us from being hungry all the time, the types of foods which are healthy and filling.  We need to retrain our appetites and our lifestyles so that we don’t want to eat cakes and sweets but are perfectly satisfied with carrots and apples as a snack
